Sister Evans recognized God’s purpose for her life at age 15. She understood her destiny and, in her own words, expressed her commitment to fulfilling God’s plan for her life.
“As a woman who heard the voice of God and stayed on track as much as I could with the plan that He ordained and preordained for my life, I want to hear well done. I might not please everyone here, but I want to hear ‘well done.’ Because of what He foreknew about me and predestined for me, I took the time in life to accomplish that.
I want to leave a legacy and heritage for my children and grandchildren, as well as for any woman that the Lord brings my way. I want to leave them with some inspiration and encouragement. Foremost in my mind is that I want to hear well done.”
Sister Lois Evans’ faithful, loving, and sacrificial commitment to Dr. Tony Evans, their family, and ministry laid the groundwork for everything God accomplished through him, including his legacy projects, The Tony Evans Study Bible and The Tony Evans Bible Commentary.
Whether supporting him through college and seminary, partnering to establish and grow Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, or using her extensive administrative skills to help develop The Urban Alternative from its humble beginnings into an international ministry, Lois was the key figure whom God used to bring all of this to fruition.
Her love for the Lord, dedication to her family, belief in her husband, passion for excellence, and servant spirit combined to make their local and global ministry possible. Lois took on various roles, serving as the first church secretary, organizing the church choir, establishing and leading the women’s ministry, and managing a national ministry staff of over 35 people—all while prioritizing her home life.
Lois Evans exemplified the Proverbs 31 woman, maximizing her gifts, skills, and calling for the benefit of her family, the good of others, and, most importantly, for the glory of God.
In every Bible study filled with insight, every uplifting song sung, every meticulously written book, every passionate sermon preached, and every worship service led with devotion, Chrystal, Priscilla, Anthony, and Jonathan walk boldly in the inspiring legacy of their mother, carrying her profound impact forward with grace and purpose. Sister Evans gave them a unified voice—steeped in confidence and committed to God’s will. She gave birth to extraordinarily gifted children and nurtured their skills and talents into adulthood. What she planted in them will continue to influence our church and generations to come for the glory of God.
Her children arise and call her blessed . . .
Proverbs 31:28
As a grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of five, Sister Evans understood her most excellent investment extended far beyond her immediate family—it rippled through generations, shaping hearts and destinies with eternal significance. Her legacy lives vibrantly in the lives of her grandchildren, each one carrying forward the foundation of faith she so carefully laid.
The faith she passed down, the love she poured out, and the example she set will echo through the ages, ensuring that the Evans family tree will continue to bear fruit that honors God for generations to come.
Beginnings are usually scary, endings are usually sad, but it’s what’s in the middle that counts.
It’s what we do in the middle of life that creates a legacy. While we can’t fully convey Sister Evans’ story of passion, faith, sacrifice, and toil, we can express our gratitude as recipients of the fruits of her labor. Her words were filled with wisdom and seasoned with a touch of salt. She expected excellence and achieved it herself. Her soft and graceful footsteps left the deepest imprints on our hearts and in the life of this ministry.
Under Sister Evans’ leadership, we have one of the strongest and most viable women’s ministries in the country, impacting thousands of women each year. This prolific ministry includes:
Additionally, Sister Evans participated in OCBF’s staff events and supported many ministries with her encouragement, presence, and participation.
A woman of all seasons, Sister Evans left no stone unturned. She was our first lady, first choir director, praise and worship leader, recording artist, author, women’s ministry director, mentor to our pastors’ and elders’ wives, and so much more. While Sister Evans is absent from the body, the memories she made with her church family will live on.
Sister Evans possessed a profound understanding that there would come a transformative moment when one’s destiny would unfurl into a timeless legacy—a priceless treasure meant to be cherished and entrusted to the hands of generations to come, weaving its richness into their lives. That moment has now arrived, as the remarkable and enduring legacy of Sister Evans has been graciously passed on to her beloved daughter-in-love, Kanika Evans, the devoted wife of our lead pastor, Jonathan Evans. Kanika embodies a vibrant generation of Kingdom women poised to step boldly into their divinely ordained roles.
We are genuinely thrilled that Kanika has wholeheartedly embraced the profound responsibilities of her new leadership role. Her unwavering determination to channel her God-given talents will undoubtedly have a transformative impact on the lives of our members. With a nurturing spirit that radiates warmth and a steadfast dedication to her family, Kanika embodies the essence of compassion and commitment. Her heartfelt devotion to our church community will undoubtedly enrich the lives of our members, reflecting the glory of God in every interaction.
Dear Friends,
For years, the Desperate for Jesus Women’s Conference and the No More Excuses Men’s Conference have been places of refuge and renewal where women and men come to worship, grow, and encounter the life-giving presence of God. Every year, it’s a powerful sight to witness brothers and sisters from near and far uniting in faith. Your presence has played a meaningful role in that story.
As we look toward 2026, our church will celebrate a remarkable milestone: 50 years of ministry! We will dedicate the year to honoring God’s faithfulness across the decades and prepare to experience all that’s yet to come.
Because this is such a significant moment in the life of our church, we will pause hosting both the Desperate for Jesus and No More Excuses Conferences in 2026 to focus fully on celebrating our 50th Anniversary.
As part of this milestone year, we are preparing a special Kingdom Legacy Conference in 2026, an unprecedented moment where we will unite to honor 50 years of impact and look ahead to the next chapter God is writing.
We are excited to share that both conferences will return in 2027, refreshed and ready to continue empowering men and women to live boldly for Christ. We cannot wait to gather with you again for another unforgettable time in God’s presence. Thank you for taking this journey with us and for being a vital part of these life-changing gatherings.
We’ll be sharing more details about our 50th Anniversary celebrations soon—so stay tuned!
